Mondrian's Martini

Bought on ebay in 2001, this rather fine piece of work was described as Mondrian's Martini by Barnaby Conrad III - a 11" high x 8 1/2" wide mixed watercolor and lithograph sold by the Modernism Art Studio in San Francisco.

Regarding Mondrian's taste in drink, Charmion von Wiegand wrote that 'His was a hospitable nature, and he would always offer visitors tea or a "cocktail," which turned out to be a glass of V8. He rarely drank anything, but on festive occasions he was fond of a glass of wine.'
(Mondrian: a memoir of his New York period, Charmion von Wiegand, Arts Yearbook 4, 1961)
